Cow Chip Throwing Contestants

World Cow Chip Throw Competition

Sandi Frey and Craig Taylor Women's and Men's Division champions of the 2007 Regional ‘Triple T' Sanctioned Cow Chip Throw during Tilden's 2007 Prairie Days will travel to Beaver, Oklahoma to compete in the World Cow ChipThrow Contest on Saturday, April 19.

Sandi made a very respectable showing locally. If she had thrown the same distance in last year's world event she would have placed third. She definitely has a chance at a top spot.

Craig Taylor has been suffering some shoulder problems but decided he is well enough to travel to the Beaver contest. Craig's 2007 winning throw in Tilden was 135'4” . Jim Pratt, current world champion, won his title last year with a throw of 139' 10". Let's hope Craig's arm stays healthy.

The Tilden Library Foundation, proud sponsor of the local event, is hoping Tilden will have a great showing at nationals this year.   Last year the World Contest was plagued by heavy winds.  Keep these two athletes in mind as the world competition grows closer and hope for cooperative weather.

New Employee

We have a new member on our library staff. Janet Davis joined us in late September and has hit the ground running. Janet, a certified librarian, was assistant librarian in Atkinson for seven years and went through their new building process. Here in Tilden she has taken over the task of listing items for the eBay Auction and developed our first newsletter, ever, in November. If you have the opportunity, stop in a welcome her to our community and library.

Calvin and Hobbes Comic Books
by Hella Bauer

Some time ago somebody donated his entire collection of Calvin & Hobbes comic books to our Tilden Library.
We were delighted to receive them and today i want to refresh your memory of the very popular comic strips, which were syndicated daily from November 18, 1985 to December 31, 1995 in newspapers across the country.
The author, Bill Watterson, probably was inspired for the location of the strip by his hometown of Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
The themes of the strips deal with Calvin's flights of fantasy, his friendship with Hobbes, his relationships and interactions with his parents, classmates, educators, etc.
In some strips Calvin sees Hobbes as alive and other times he is a stuffed animal. These comic books are a real treasure and full of humor and imagination.
Why not come to the Tilden Library and check one or two of these books out and have something to read and laugh about on a snowy winter day.
